human terrains
Human Terrains is a photographic collage series that approaches the human figure not as a static subject, but as a living landscape shaped by light, form, and time. Drawing from my long-standing exploration of layered photographic narratives, each composition is constructed from many detail-oriented fragments captured across shifting moments and perspectives.
Rather than seeking a single defining image, I photograph the body through subtle variations — curves, contours, textures, and shifting light — that on their own might pass quietly by. As both the subject and my vantage point remain in constant motion, the figure becomes fragmented and reassembled through the collage process. Multiple hands, feet, or overlapping forms may appear within a single composition, introducing a distorted and abstracted quality that reflects the fluidity of perception itself. Only in bringing these fragments together does the full image emerge, revealing rhythms and relationships that mirror the natural world.
Each figure rests upon white sheets that function as a luminous, atmospheric ground — much like clouds or sky within my landscape collages. These soft surfaces catch light and shadow, adding depth and movement while allowing the body’s topography to remain central. The physical layering of printed photographs further enhances this dimensional presence, activating the surface and drawing the viewer into the contours of the image.
Grounded in respect for the beauty and individuality of the human form, the series seeks to capture a sense of restless stillness — moments where motion and calm coexist. The collages invite slow looking and close attention, offering an immersive way of seeing in which time, detail, and presence combine to create visual narratives that extend beyond the limits of a single photograph.
